These are two kitchens designed for Metropolitan Home Magazine. These kitchens are virtually identical except for two things: The most easily recognized is the price, what you can't see is the quality. The Kitchen on the right is built with higher end materials and "top of the line" products. The one on the left is built with "economy line" products in most cases from the same manufacturers as the ones on the left. In many areas of the country these differences would not make a difference. However Hawaii is a different environment that tests the limits of most warranties that most mainland building product companies guarantee. For instance if the cabinets on the left are built with "particle board" they have an average life in Hawaii of less than five years. "OSB" which is a very popular ply board substitute on the mainland is not used in many parts of the state of Hawaii. Quality does not have to be expensive, but "economy" can be. Finding the right materials is as important as finding the right contractor. Finding the right contractor will solve many problems. It is strongly suggested that any consumer that is not familiar with the Hawaii building industry take the time to research their builder, materials and designs. Build Smarter! Caveat Emptor.
